As commuters brace themselves for a second day of traffic gridlock due to the Dublin Bus strike, a driver union has claimed that the majority of those who use public transport support their members’ demand for “fair pay”.

It has emerged that when the company’s unions meet next week, they may ramp up their action. They are already due to hold two further 48-hour strikes this month, one of which takes place next week.

“The workers have been humbled by the support shown to them by members of the public on picket lines at bus depots across the city,” said Siptu divisional organiser Owen Reidy.
