Sinn Féin finance spokesman Pearse Doherty insists a party colleague who was suspended over claims he was coaching another witness in the North’s Nama loans inquiry, acted alone throughout the controversy.

The Donegal TD rejected suggestions that ex-Antrim MLA Daithí McKay was supported by any other party member, adding he would be “shocked” if “innuendo” surrounding the North’s finance minster proved to be correct.

Last week, Mr McKay stood down as a member of the Stormont Assembly and was suspended by Sinn Féin after claims he was coaching loyalist blogger Jamie Bryson on what to say while a witness at the inquiry.
