The 44-year-old woman was found yesterday morning in Dublin city centre. She had been missing for five days and nights.
A search party of approximately 100 people, made up of members of the Finglas community where Karen was from, had been looking for her since she went missing last Friday afternoon.
Gardaí released a statement at midday yesterday confirming that Karen had been found safe and well in Dublin city centre.
A group from Down Syndrome Ireland had also been searching for Karen, with a team meeting in Phoenix Park yesterday morning.
Karen had been missing from her home, which she shares with her mother and brother in Finglas, since 3.30pm last Friday.
While there had been many reported sightings of Karen there had only been two confirmed sightings of her from CCTV footage, one in the Phibsboro area of Dublin and one in a pub on Burgh Quay.
She had left home with a suitcase and a small amount of money but no passport or mobile phone.
Gardaí had renewed their appeal for Karen on Monday and there had also been one alleged sighting of her in Penneys on St Patrick’s Street in Cork. This report was investigated and confirmed not to be Karen.
