There should be no negative consequences from Brexit for human rights in Ireland, the Irish Human rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) has urged.

“In any proposed arrangements post-Brexit, it is important to ensure coherence of protections of human rights and equality north and south of the border,” said chief commissioner, Emily Logan.

Speaking in advance of the publication of the IHREC’s first annual report today, Ms Logan said any future legislative proposals should not undermine human right commitments in the Good Friday Agreement.
