Residents of a housing estate in Cork City say they are “living in fear and terror”, due to a marked rise in criminality.

Locals of the Hollywood Estate, on the northside of the city, claim cars have been burnt-out, windows broken, shots fired, and arrests made in the area.

Their comments come just days after a violent assault led to a house fire in the estate. Early Saturday morning, homeowners awoke to the sound of fire engines, Garda car sirens, and an ambulance, as they rushed to the scene at No 23, Hollywood Estate, to battle an inferno.
