Mystery US tipper picks up €4k tab in Kerry bar
The Blasket Bar in Castle St, Tralee, has a late-night bar on Tuesday when a party of four American golfers walked in around 10pm.
One of them, described as a man in his 40s and Asian American, threw his credit card behind the bar and said the immortal words: “The drinks are on me.”
More than €2,500 was racked up on the card in the space of two and a half hours.
But the spending spree did not stop there — musicians, bar staff, and security staff were gifted cash in dollars and euro of around €2,000.
George Savage, who has owned The Blasket Bar since 2005 and has been in the bar business for more than two decades, said: “It was phenomenal. I am delighted for my staff.”
The rumour on the night was that the man was celebrating a birthday — with some speculating that he was a billionaire in the technology industry, from California, or maybe even a lottery winner.
However his identity has not been confirmed and the hunt is on in Kerry to find out where his next stop is.
