A man has appeared in court charged with an assault causing harm to a 13-year-old boy.

At Ennis District Court, Shane Curry, aged 21, of Croi na mBaile, Kilmhil, Co Clare, was charged with the assault causing harm of the boy and possessing a knife during the course of the alleged assault on the teen at John Paul Estate in Kilrush, Co Clare, last Saturday.

Mr Curry is also charged with threatening to burn down the house of a woman at Crawford St, Kilrush, and having a knife when trespassing into the curtilage of her property on th at date.

Yesterday, Judge Patrick Durcan refused a bail application for Mr Curry based on the seriousness of the alleged offences, the likely sentence to be imposed if convicted, and the strength of evidence in the case.

Judge Durcan remanded Mr Curry in custody to re-appear before Ennis District Court next month.
