A man suffered life-threatening injuries after he was trapped when a JCB teleporter toppled attempting to lift a heavy shuttering panel on to a building site. He has been awarded €215,000 in the High Court.

Mr Justice Michael Hanna said Eamon Callaghan had a frightening and terrifying experience as he was trapped under the shuttering panel, weighing 1.3 tonnes, while others tried to help him.

The judge said Mr Callaghan could not see anything but could hear people desperately struggling to save him. He suffered near catastrophic injuries and medics at Tallaght Hospital had fought to save his life.
