Italy prosecutes people-smugglers detained by Irish Naval Service

The Italian authorities have prosecuted a number of people-smugglers who were detained by the Naval Service.

The service is also feeding intelligence to an EU force in an effort to smash people-smuggling gangs operating in Libya.

The smugglers prosecuted were detained by Naval Service ships operating in the Mediterranean Sea during last year’s humanitarian mission.
