Saoirse Ronan named as next generation leader by Time Magazine

Saoirse Ronan has been named by Time Magazine as one of its 10 “next generation leaders” and has put the actress on its international magazine cover.

It says Ronan, 22, “is at the forefront of a generation of female actors overturning expectations about how young women are portrayed in theatre, film, and television”.

“Like many women her age, Ronan is learning to demand what she wants in her career. That she is able to do so with humility may explain her success,” it adds.

The other nine chosen by the magazine as people who “are hard at work changing the world” do not have the same global recognition as Ronan.

They include a Liberian water activist, a 15-year-old US rock climber, a German refugee activist, and a Brazilian geologist.
