Cork City Council seeks tenders for Christmas production

Cork City Council has advertised tenders for an artistic director and for a production manager or a team to develop and run a site-specific outdoor Christmas-themed production in the city centre for the 2016 festive period.
The winning applicant will oversee the staging of a magical Christmas attraction in Bishop Lucey Park as part of the council’s eighth annual Glow — A Cork Christmas Celebration event.
The hugely successful free Christmas attraction, which has included a food fair and a giant Ferris wheel, has attracted tens of thousands of people over the last seven years.
This year’s event is expected to attract up to 200,000 people over the four weekends in the run-up to Christmas.
The tender will include the development of a concept, and design, delivery and implementation, and the on-site management of the production which will be free to the public as part of Glow.
The successful tenderer will develop a festive theme and concept which must be family oriented, include animation through performers, music, and sound elements, and be suitable and safe for children and young people, operating between 4.30pm and 8.30pm.
The brief also includes provisions to include pedestrian movement to follow a theme or story through the park, to incorporate the existing lighting scheme, and the creation of a focal point at the fountain within the 0.4 hectacre park, if possible.
The council said the use of snow machines within the park is desirable.
Tender documents, available at www.etenders.gov.ie, must be submitted electronically by 4pm on June 3.
