Fatal motorbike case to go to trial

An Armagh man is to face trial after a motorcyclist was killed in a collision on the quays in Dublin city-centre.

Patrick McArdle, aged 47, appeared at Dublin District Court, charged with careless driving causing death to Slawomir Korytowski on July 3, 2015, at North Wall Quay. The Lithuanian national, who was in his 30s, died instantly after his motorbike collided with the truck.

Garda Sergeant Karl Murray told Judge John Lindsay that the accused met gardaí at Store St station, by arrangement, yesterday morning. The DPP has directed that Mr McArdle, of Forest Park, Drumintee, Co Armagh, must face trial on indictment. This means the case will go forward to the Circuit Court, after the book of evidence has been completed.

Gda Sgt Murrary said that, after he was charged, Mr McArdle was handed a true copy of the charge sheet and made no reply when cautioned. The sergeant then asked for an adjournment.

There was no objection to bail, on condition that the accused resided at his current address in Armagh. He must notify gardaí of any change. Mr McArdle, who has not yet entered a plea, was ordered to appear again on May 26, when it is expected he will be served with a book of evidence and returned for trial.
