Injury rate for gardaí 10 times higher than for average worker

Garda work injury rates, including from assaults, are 10 times higher than that of the average worker, official figures show.

The 611 incidents recorded in 2014 include:

• 283 assaults.
• 103 road traffic collisions.
• 92 slips, trips and falls.
• 43 contacts with sharp, pointed or rough objects.
• 22 needle-stick injuries or stabbings.
• 6 cases of psychological shock or trauma.
