Number of assaults and sexual offences up

Recorded sexual offences, assaults, threats of murder, and kidnappings rose sharply last year.

However, the number of homicides dropped dramatically and the number of burglaries, robberies, and thefts also fell.

The Central Statistics Office report for 2015 reveals that while the total number of weapons offences are down, there was a significant increase in shootings.
