Man slashes woman’s face in Cork city

Gardaí are investigating the possibility a daylight knife attack on a young woman, leaving her with serious slash injuries to the face, may be connected to another incident which happened in Cork City just over a week ago.

Gardaí said the 29-year-old sustained facial stab wounds during an incident involving a male at Ardfallen Terrace, off Friar St.

She was taken to Cork University Hospital where she is continuing to receive treatment.

The woman had been parking her car at Friar St, close to Douglas St, when she was approached by a man armed with a Stanley knife.

According to gardaí, he slashed the young woman across the face, inflicting several wounds to the area around her mouth.

The man fled the scene before gardaí arrived. Gardaí said there seemed to be no apparent motive other than to harm the woman as there was no attempt to rob her of either cash or her car.

Gardaí are continuing to examine CCTV footage from the area and are also carrying out door-to-door inquiries.

They are particularly appealing to anybody who was in the vicinity of Ardfallen Terrace and Friar St between 11am and 11.40am on Wednesday to contact them.
