Fine Gael negotiators have ruled out opening any talks with Fianna Fáil on government formation options until at least next month as the party focuses on maximising support for a vote for Enda Kenny as taoiseach.

Mr Kenny met Fine Gael ministers last night ahead of continued efforts by his party to build support for a rainbow government, which would include smaller parties and Independents.

Senior Fine Gael sources ruled out the latest suggestion of a cross-party government, involving a broad range of TDs, including those from Fianna Fáil, an idea mooted by Independent TD Denis Naughten.
