The former director of a hepatitis C support group, who stole €116,000 from the organisation, has been given a chance to raise compensation.

A sentencing hearing at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, yesterday, heard that Bernadette Warnock, 63, stole the money while operating the finances of Positive Action Ltd. The group was set up in 1994 to help women who had contracted hepatitis C through contaminated bloods in maternity hospitals.

Positive Action had 730 members and received the majority of its funding from the HSE. It was closed down in 2014, following a HSE audit that found financial mismanagement.
