Here’s one lady who’s staunchly refusing to let International Women’s Day pass unnoticed in her home town.

Dunmanway digs deep to celebrate women’s lives

Kirstie Smith has issued an invitation to women all over West Cork to contribute everything from costume jewellery to hair-bobbles and an iPhone manual to kitchen gadgets to fill an old army ammunitions box, which will be a time capsule marking International Women’s Day tomorrow.

Once it’s crammed to the brim with everything from CDs to household items, beauty aids to photographs, the metal box will be buried at noon in the grounds of Dunmanway’s community garden at the family resource centre.
