Call to beef up trawler safety

The Marine Casualty Investigation Board (MCIB) has called on Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe to make the wearing of safety harnesses mandatory for trawler fishermen.

This follows an investigation into the death on June 16 last year of a fishermen off the coast of Donegal.

The MCIB probe found that neither of the two fishermen on board the MFV Our Jenna were wearing mandatory life-jackets and the crew member who drowned was unable to swim.
