Extra 6,500 Euro 2016 tickets for Irish football fans
But while the 25% increase in tickets for supporters of Martin O’Neill’s side brings the total allocation so far to 32,502, most hoping to get into the stadiums in France will be left disappointed. More than 275,000 tickets have been applied for, with European soccer’s governing body to inform all applicants of their status by the end of February.
Welcoming the increase secured last Friday, Football Association of Ireland CEO John Delaney said they will go some way to satisfying huge demand.
Almost half the extra tickets are 3,087 more for the June 13 opener against Sweden in the Stade de France, for which 13,000 were already available.
Fans seeking entry to the clash with Belgium in Bordeaux on June 18 have a better chance of success as 1,095 extra tickets bring the total for Republic supporters to nearly 7,100. And an extra 2,320 tickets for the final group game against Italy four days later means at least 9,320 Irish fans will be inside Lille’s Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
