Mario Felloni, aged 32, of no fixed address, left Belfast several months ago and came to live in Cork and came to the attention of gardaí on January 15 when he stole a car.

Insp Fergal Foley said the owner of the car went into Novecento pizza restaurant on Douglas St at 8.45pm and Felloni drove away in his car.

Felloni pleaded guilty to several charges yesterday arising out of the incident.

He admitted stealing the car at Douglas St, driving it dangerously at the junction of Douglas Rd and High St and again at Castle Rd and causing €1,500 damage to the car.

Insp Foley said the accused passed a taxi driver on the incident during the first dangerous driving and forced a woman cycling to take evasive action to avoid a collision on Castle Rd.

Mr Boyle said the accused man’s purpose in stealing the car in the first place was as somewhere to sleep as he was homeless at the time.

Judge Leo Malone imposed an overall sentence of six months on the accused man who had more than 100 previous convictions, two from Youghal a few months ago, and the remainder all being from Northern Ireland.
