VIDEO: Record-breaker Briege Corkery finally meets her match as she marries Diarmuid Scannell
The Cork camogie and ladies’ football star wedded Diarmuid Scannell in her local St John the Baptist Church in Rusheen yesterday, with an overspill of guests watching the ceremony on a streamed feed into the local GAA club.
Briege, 29, made history in September, with Rena Buckley, by claiming a 16th All-Ireland winner’s medal — 10 for football and six for camogie.
A guard of honour, formed by her Cork colleagues, greeted the couple as they left Rusheen church in Mid-Cork for a lavish reception in the Rochestown Park Hotel.
Diarmuid and Briege will honeymoon in Dubai before she turns her thoughts to another season of dual commitments with Cork. “I’ll see what happens,” she admitted recently. “If I’m not playing well in one code, I might stick to the other.”
