Public warning about doctor forbidden to practise

Concerns have arisen that a doctor forbidden to practise medicine in Ireland may be continuing to do so after the Medical Council issued a warning in relation to a doctor who was struck off earlier this year.
Public warning about doctor forbidden to practise

Mohammad Ahmed Khan had his registration cancelled in June after the council’s fitness-to-practise committee found that he over-prescribed sleeping pills to a patient who was addicted to them. At an earlier hearing, he was found guilty of professional misconduct in 11 out of 15 allegations made against him.

Yesterday, the council issued a public advisory notice calling on members of the public to contact gardaí or the council if they become aware Dr Khan is still practising.

Last week, the council secured a High Court Injunction restraining Dr Khan from practising medicine while unregistered.

In 2012, Dr Khan, a GP practising on Dublin’s Wicklow St, had conditions attached to his registration after being found guilty by the council of poor professional performance for over-prescribing benzodiazepines for patients with anxiety and insomnia.
