A 16-year-old youth has been charged with the manslaughter of another teen in a Mayo town on Saturday.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at a special sitting of Castlebar District Court yesterday afternoon charged in relation to the fatal assault which occurred at Claremount Manor, Knock Road, Claremorris in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The victim, 17-year-old Dovydas Jenkus, was pronounced dead at the scene of the alleged assault, at a garden to the rear of a house in Claremount Manor. The scene was sealed off for a technical examination.

The accused was arrested on Saturday in connection with the assault and detained at Claremorris Garda Station.

The youth was yesterday remanded on bail subject to appear again at tomorrow’s sitting of Ballina District Court.
