Social media backlash after video shows divers jumping into the sea in Galway during Storm Desmond

In the middle of Storm Desmond, with a Red Weather Alert alert issued by Met Eireann for areas including Connacht, the two men are seen jumping into very choppy seas.

Cathal Devlin, who posted the video to Facebook said he posted it to highlight "madness and stupidity of what these youngsters are doing".

The video has been viewed over 400,000 times and the reaction has been largely negative with commenters calling the divers "fools", "idiots" and "stupid".

Mr Devlin makes the point that "the voluntary and rescue services are kept busy enough without having to worry about this type of stupid behaviour."

It seems it needs to be said once again to stay safe in the storm and take the weather seriously.

Mr Devlin also sent irishexaminer.com pictures highlighting just how wild the sea was in Salthill by the pier.
