EU agrees passenger name record system

Airline passengers and anybody booking through travel agents flying anywhere within the EU, and internationally, will have their data checked by law enforcement agencies in a major security development for the EU.

Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald confirmed Ireland will be part of the new arrangement which will cover both scheduled and charter flights, and oblige travel agents as well as airlines to forward details in advance of flight departures.

Information will include name, address, amount of luggage and booking details.
