A young man hoping to join the British Army avoided two months in jail yesterday arising out of his behaviour when his girlfriend and his ex-girlfriend got into a fight over him.

Flaubert Njumbe got a two-month jail sentence last year, but it was suspended on condition that he would keep the peace for two years.

However, his behaviour in a subsequent incident on the night of May 16 this year reactivated the old case and put him at risk of having the suspension revoked.
