Surgeon criticises hospital managers for ‘trying to cover up’ problems

A surgeon has criticised hospital managers for not having the courage to speak up when things go wrong.

Consultant ophthalmologist Michael O’Keeffe said management had kept on trying to cover up problems — and had kept on making one excuse after the other.

Prof O’Keeffe, based at the Mater and Temple St hospitals in Dublin, has been concerned for a long time that nobody is challenging the public system.
