Cavan-Monaghan TD Sean Conlan was told he would not be ratified as a Fine Gael candidate for the general election if he was charged in relation to his arrest in August.

Cavan-Monaghan TD Sean Conlan quits Fine Gael

Mr Conlan announced his shock resignation from Fine Gael on local radio yesterday afternoon.

He will run as an Independent in the forthcoming election. The controversial TD said he quit Fine Gael because of its failure to listen to his constituents’ views on the North-South Interconnector pylon project, which will see hundreds of pylons erected in his constituency.
