The body responsible for enforcing consumer protection law in Ireland has opened its own investigation into the Volkswagen emissions scandal.

Isolde Goggin, chairwoman of the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, said the commission is ‘deeply concerned’ at disclosures surrounding the German car manufacturer.

The investigation by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission will establish whether there has been a breach of consumer protection law in Ireland.
