The head of Google in Ireland has called for an increased focus on technology in the education system to prepare students for future opportunities in the digital world.

Speaking in Skibbereen, West Cork, yesterday ahead of a presentation today at National Digital Week, Ronan Harris said industries are being born and Irish people can prepare now to fill those jobs.

He referenced to a mooted shortage of data scientists as one area and said there will be “huge opportunities” in industries that, in some cases, have not as yet been invented.
