“I was in LA and I met up with my pal Meat Loaf and he was at me [saying] ‘I want to be on your show,’ and I was going ‘ok let’s do it,’” explained the rockabilly singer.

Although a third series of RTÉ’s the Imelda May Show has yet to be commissioned, the singer is optimistic about getting the green light.

“I’m passionate about the show, I’m hoping I get another one, I don’t know if I will,” she said, but admitted TV is not her first love.

“I’m still not sure if I want to do telly and I’ll get slated for saying that. I’m happy to be a TV presenter but I have my career in where I want it - in music. I am into Irish bands being on Irish telly,” said the 41-year-old.

Having said that Imelda admits she is being approached by a lot of musicians and bands to appear on any upcoming series of her show and she is just as eager to work with them too.

“I’m hoping for another year I haven’t really been asked yet so I’ll see but I really enjoyed it [the second series] and I relaxed a little more on it.

“The line-up is getting stronger and now I have bands coming to me and huge bands,”she explained.

Imelda, who this summer announced her split from husband of 13 years and former band mate Darrel Higham, still has plenty of musical men in her life.

When asked who else she would like to appear on a third series of her hit show she was quick to answer.

“Leonard Cohen. I know he’s not Irish, we’ll forgive him that, I’d like Leonard Cohen,” she answered.

“I’d love Bono and do you know who I’m after? I’m after Pat Ingoldsby. He is one of our fine poets in Ireland and I think he’s often overlooked for that. He’s a phenomenal poet and I would chase him down to get him on to read some poetry for us,” she said.
