Man ‘in grave state’ after attack

A 23-year-old man found with what was described as very serious injuries in the front garden of a house in Tralee on Wednesday night is in a very grave condition, gardaí say.

Gardaí believe that the serious injuries were inflicted shortly before 10.30pm inside the house in Killeen Woods.

A number of people were in the house at the time in what appears to have been a party where alcohol was consumed.

Two men, both Eastern Europeans, were arrested near the scene a short time after the man was found.

Their period of detention has been extended.

Detective gardaí in Tralee continue to question both men in relation to the incident.

The victim is not originally Irish but attended school in Killarney and at least one family member lives in Kerry.

Family members are gathering at his bedside at Kerry General hospital where he was brought by ambulance shortly after 10.30pm on Wednesday.

It is understood the man suffered from a rare medical condition.

Gardaí in Tralee are trying to establish who was in the house at the time and who is in a position to help them with their inquiries.

“We are treating it in a very serious manner. There are very serious injuries inflicted on this man,” Superintendent Jim O’Connor said, adding that whatever occurred, happened at the house.
