144 jobs announced for Limerick tech park

Two jobs announcements in Limerick yesterday saw the city gain 144 jobs at two facilities in the National Technological Park in Plassey. Telephone company Three said 100 jobs have now been transferred from its call centre in Mumbai in India to Limerick.

And US company, Meco, which provides water purification systems for food and beverage companies is to set increase its European headquarters where 44 people will be employed.

Minister for Finance Michael Noonan said the jobs is evidence that the economic recovery is spreading throughout the country.

“Three’s decision to transition calls from Mumbai to its Limerick operation is a strong testament, not only to Three’s existing workforce in Limerick, but also the availability of a skilled workforce in the area.

“We know a skilled workforce is not only the corner stone of our economic recovery, but is key to attracting business and today’s announcements are evidence Limerick is competing on the international stage and winning,” he said.

Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton said the jobs are a great boost to the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs and to Limerick and the Mid-West.

Robert Finnegan, CEO of Three said: “Our aim is to deliver the ultimate customer service experience and this is now a reality through our Irish based customer service centres of excellence in both Limerick and Waterford.

“Our network investment project of €300m over the next two years is well-underway in delivering a super-fast 4G network to our customers.”
