Cork Opera House boasts impressive autumn/winter line-up

Chart-topping DJs, country legends and comedians are set to take centre stage at Cork Opera House over the coming months, with a sprinkle of Christmas panto magic thrown in for good measure.

DJ Duke Dumont will be visiting the venue for his only Irish date of his Blasé Boys Club tour this September, while legendary country singer Nathan Carter has also confirmed his appearance.

Fresh from his stint at the Edinburgh Festival, Ireland’s comedy sensation Al Porter will also be bringing his unique wit and style to the stage later this month.

The new autumn/winter line-up will see more than 55 events in music, dance, comedy and theatre come alive on the stage. Speaking at the launch of the programme Cork Opera House CEO Mary Hickson said she was hopeful the new line-up would attract a wide audience.

“Variety is key in our next season’s line-up with everything from opera and ballet to comedy and a wide range of music to suit all tastes.

“At the heart of our programming approach is listening to our audiences and we’re delighted to be giving them what they want; the best and brightest of national and international stars right here on the Cork Opera House stage.”

The Opera House will continue to play its part in this year’s Cork Jazz Festival and will host a range of musical talents over the three-day weekend in October. It will also continue to bring retro films to the big screen and, as part of its Halloween special, will screen horror flick The Silence of the Lambs.

Cork City Ballet will perform its version of Swan Lake in November, while Beauty and the Beast is the chosen pantomime this Christmas.

“We’re introducing some new young talent to our Cork audiences and we just can’t wait to once again entertain families this festive season,” Ms Hickson said.

The new year will open with performances from Tommy Fleming, The Legend of Luke Kelly, and The High Kings. Finbar Wright will also return to the Opera House for his annual ‘Women’s Little Christmas’ Gala Concert.
