Gardaí are advising people to arrive in the village of Castlelyons, Co Cork, before 1pm on Friday if they want to attend Thomas Kent’s State funeral.

They are preparing for an influx of several thousand people and will be out in force from early that day directing traffic alongside a large number of local stewards.

A garda spokesman said that the main street in Castlelyons and the area around St Nicholas Church — where Thomas Kent will be buried — will be closed off to all traffic from 1.15pm to 2pm.
