2FM DJ Jenny Greene ‘over the moon’ after engagement

The popular DJ, who co-hosts the Nicky Byrne Show on 2FM, made the announcement on Twitter with a simple message: “She said yes! Over the moon!!”

Ahead of the marriage equality referendum in May, Ms Greene went public stating she was “not allowed” to discuss the referendum in interviews because she worked in RTÉ.

However, she told the RTÉ Guide she “definitely” planned to marry if the referendum passed.

“I’m not saying that if the marriage referendum goes, through, that we would get engaged the following day, but I would like to know that I can,” she said.

Speaking yesterday to Nicky Byrne, Ms Greene said she and her partner, Kelly Keogh, had “a great laugh” out of the media interest in her engagement, adding that it must be a “slow news day”.

In a tongue-in-cheek interview, she said the ceremony would be a low-key affair without any exclusive pictures in celebrity magazines.

“I think we will be sticking to ourselves,” she said. “I won’t be taking anyone’s phones off them on the day. They can snap away to their hearts’ content. Maybe [dance music magazine] Mixmag, we might do something in that.”

The news of Ms Greene’s engagement comes after RTÉ news presenter Jonathan Clynch told colleagues that he is “gender-fluid” and intends, on some occasions, to attend the station in female attire. He also intends to take on the additional name of Rachel.

Mr Clynch had intended to to give an interview discussing his decision with Marian Finucane on her show at the weekend, but pulled out after the story appeared in a newspaper

“He was to come in and talk to us here today about the whole thing and to explain it and how his life and that will be changed for the better for him now, but he only found out yesterday that this would be in the papers today,” Ms Finucane said. RTÉ has said it supported Mr Clynch’s decision.

“As an employer and organisation RTÉ encourages diversity and equality and RTÉ is supportive of Jonathan Rachel, a valued member of staff and a highly-respected journalist,” said a statement.
