Fennelly Fallout: GRA: Callinan departure was due to political interference

The body representing rank-and-file gardaí has said it still believes former commissioner Martin Callinan was removed from his office through political interference.

The Fennelly report found Mr Callinan’s decision to retire was “precipitated” by a visit to his home by a senior civil servant on behalf of the Taoiseach but also that the decision was the commissioner’s and he could have decided not to retire.
