Fisherman dies after being swept into the sea

One man died and another is in hospital after a fishing accident in Co Waterford yesterday. The two were fishing near Annestown at about 2pm when the men were swept into the water.

Emergency services, including the Coastguard helicopter and Tramore RNLI, rushed to the scene. The man was airlifted to University Hospital Waterford where he later died. The second man, who also entered the water, was taken to hospital and is stable.

Separately, a Garda investigation is under way following the death of a Galwayman after he was overcome by fumes on a trawler in Co Donegal yesterday. A second fisherman who tried to help him is in a critical condition.
