Taxpayer to fund health checks of department staff

The taxpayer is to fund a health screening programme that is to be made available to the 6,700 staff at the Government’s largest department.

This follows the Department of Social Protection seeking tenders from firms to carry out health screening for its staff.

Two previous health screenings for staff in 2010 and 2007 cost the State just under a combined €80,000.
