Couple seek Ed Sheeran gig proposal footage

Ed Sheeran fans from Co Meath who got engaged at his recent concert in London are desperately trying to track down footage taken of the special moment.

Shirley Price was swept off her feet when Paul O’Brien got down on one knee and proposed to her during Ed’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ at Wembley on July 12.

The romantic gesture was captured on phone by a stranger who promised to email the couple the footage. However, in her euphoria, Shirley, who met Paul in 2012, now thinks she may have given out the wrong email address, as she still has yet to receive the video.

“I adore all kinds of music,” she said. “When I met Paul, my sister left her Ed Sheeran CD in my car and I started playing it all the time. Now his music just reminds me of Paul.

“I’ve got the Ed effect but we’re not super fans of him or anything. We’ve a little boy, Danny who is two years old and is the spit of Ed. It’s now a running joke among friends and family.

“Last year, before he announced Croke Park gigs, I was saying that I’d love to see him live. Then on Christmas morning, Paul presented me with the tickets and flights for his concert in Wembley.”

Shirley and John, from Wilkinstown, Navan, had discussed marriage but she was told it was not on the cards that weekend.

“About an hour into the concert, he went to the toilet,” said Shirley. “Ed suddenly started playing ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and I phoned my dad to let him hear it live. I was looking for Paul and saw him breaking his neck trying to get back to me for the song.

“He said: ‘I’ve something to ask you’ and I said: ‘Dad’s on the phone!’. Then all of a sudden, I could see the ring and he was down on one knee. Of course, I said yes and just jumped on him in delight. ”

Luckily, the special moment was caught by a nearby gig-goer.

“It was an English girl with blonde hair and her partner who had a beard,” said Shirley. They congratulated us and told us they’d send on the footage so I gave them my email address. Now I think I gave them the wrong email address. It’s [e-mail].

“I’m desperately trying to track her down any way I can. Now I know there’s footage of the proposal out there, it would be great if we could get it,” she said.
