Elderly people living in nursing homes and their families will be told today whether they will have to pay more to access the vital later life supports provided under the Fair Deal scheme.

The decision will be outlined as part of a long-awaited, detailed Government report set to be published this afternoon by junior minister Kathleen Lynch after a private briefing with patient representative groups this morning.

The document, which has been finished since early February, was finally signed off on by cabinet last week despite an expectation it would happen last March.
