Lisa Barrett, a mother of three from Glanmire, Co Cork, used the power of social media to contact female celebrities to ask them to donate fashion items for a ‘pre-loved’ dress event in aid of Marymount hospice.

Before she had even finished sending out emails, the Prime Time host was on board and quickly offered Lisa a dress to auction on the night.

Miriam sent Lisa an email saying: “I am very happy to donate a dress.”

A friend of Lisa’s travelled to meet Miriam outside the RTÉ studios to collect the dress, but when she got there Miriam handed over not one garment, but four.

The presenter even agreed to pose with her gowns before giving them away for the fundraiser.

“It’s absolutely brilliant that Miriam agreed to help us out with four beautiful dresses,” said Lisa. “Some are really expensive.

“Hopefully, this will give our event the push it needs to be a success.

“I got an email only last Friday from Winning Streak presenter Sinead Kennedy and she said she wants to donate a dress too, so it’s gaining momentum all the time.

“We’re still waiting for other celebs to come back to us.

“One other well-known stylish celebrity has promised us a dress.”

However, Lisa’s dedication to her cause means she’s on the lookout for other items as well.

“We’re not just looking for dresses,” said Lisa. “Handbags, shoes, anything would be great. And they don’t have to have famous owners.

“Anything people can give to raise funds would be fantastic.”

Lisa’s father, who had been suffering from cancer, passed away in October 2014, a few months after two of his close friends also succumbed to the disease.

All three men spent their final days being cared for in Marymount.

In honour of the men, their friends and families decided to create the BCT Trust in order to raise funds for the hospice.

In April of this year, the trust gave Marymount a cheque for €10,000, the proceeds from a series of events last year.

The ‘pre-loved’ dress sale will take place on August 22 and will feature a full range of fashion items for sale, demonstrations by hair and makeup stylists, aand an auction of donations from celebrities’ wardrobes.
