Drunk man rolled keg of beer at investigating garda

A six-month jail sentence was imposed yesterday on Aaron Quinn-Walsh, of 55 Killala Gardens, Knocknaheeny, Cork, on charges arising out of the incident.

Inspector Mary King said that, after midnight on February 14, Garda Eric Stafford was on patrol in the Lower John St area of Blackpool when he observed a number of youths drinking on the steps.

He got out of the patrol car and began walking up the steps when he saw the accused with a keg at his feet.

“As he approached, Aaron Quinn-Walsh kicked the keg down the steps at Garda Stafford and ran off,” Insp King said.

There was no suggestion that that keg made contact with the garda.

The keg was the property of Heineken Ireland.

About an hour later, the same defendant was seen in a garden area at the front of the Heineken premise and once again had a keg of beer with him. He was drunk and abusive during the incidents, the court heard.

He yesterday pleaded guilty to engaging in threatening behaviour, handling the stolen beer keg, and being drunk and a source of danger to himself or others.
