A school principal has won his battle with his board of management for payment of €1,769 for supervision duty.

After a tribunal ruling that there was a lack of clarity in circulars on supervision issued by the Department of Education, it is likely that new circulars in respect of principal teachers supervising or on “yard duty” will have to be drawn up.

Micheál Ó Deasmhúnaigh took his complaint to the Employment Appeals Tribunal (EAT) after the board of management of Scoil Ghleanna in New Inn, Glanmire, Co Cork, instructed that he should be put down for zero hours of supervision for the school year 2011-2012.
