VIDEO: Crowds gear up for musical treat at Musgrave Park with Carreras and Jenkins
Ahead of the much-anticipated gig, due to take place in Musgrave Park tonight, the Irish Examiner sat down with the stars of the show.
“I was here before for three concerts. I think it was December, not last year, the year before. I had the most amazing time here in Cork,” said Ms Jenkins.
“I felt so welcomed, absolutely loved everybody I met, so for me, to get to return, and also to have the huge honour to perform with Mr Carreras, it just doesn’t get any better.”
The Welsh songstress plans to fit in some tourist activities for the few days she is in the area.
“I went to Blarney Castle last time and I kissed the stone. It was freezing cold because it was winter so I sort of feel like I should go back and see it in full bloom,” she said.
“We’re going for a walk and restaurant thing tonight. I’m seeing the bits of Cork that I didn’t get to see last time, which is lovely.”
Perhaps she can show her fellow performer, Mr Carreras, the sites — it’s the Spanish tenor’s first time visiting the county.
“I’m very pleased and you know, any time that an artist goes for the first time to a place is a challenge and I’m ready for it,” he said.
“Katherine is a beautiful lady and a wonderful singer. I am very much looking forward to performing with her again. Apart from our solo pieces we will also perform some wonderful duets like the drinking song from La Traviata.”
José Carreras and Katherine Jenkins will be performing at Musgrave Park tonight. Doors open at 5pm and free shuttle buses will be available every five minutes from City Hall.
