Suspended sentences in Vat fraud

Two Limerick businessmen, a father and son, walked free from Limerick Circuit Court yesterday when they got suspended jail sentences for a Vat fraud of almost €224,000.

William Slattery, aged 62, and his son Jonathan, aged 35, directors of Slattery Ventures Ltd, Ballycummin, Limerick, and with an address of 68 The Forts, Dooradoyle, pleaded guilty at Limerick Circuit Court to “consenting or conniving” to defaud Revenue through Vat returns and rebates on dates between 2005 and 2008 at four outlets.

Their company ran two fish and chip outlets and a pizza business in the city and a garage shop in the county.
