Six teenagers had a lucky escape after being rescued from a homemade raft which was drifting out to sea in the early hours of yesterday.

The emergency services were alerted by a member of the public who spotted three young males and three young females on the raft about a mile east of Crosshaven, Co Cork.

The Crosshaven RNLI lifeboat was dispatched at 6.15am amid good weather conditions, but the tide was going out rapidly at the time, dragging the raft with it.
