One in five admissions of children to mental health institutions is made to an adult psychiatric ward, in spite of government promises to end the practice.

Eighty-nine children were admitted to adult units last year, compared to 98 in 2013, according to the annual report of the Mental Health Commission.

The commission urged the Government to ensure that necessary resources and support are available for mental health services.
