Man in court over machete attack on US student, 19

A book of evidence was served yesterday on a man facing a robbery charge in a case where a young student from the US had her skull fractured by an assailant who allegedly walked up behind her and swung a two-foot machete at her head before robbing her.

Det Sgt Vincent O’Sullivan served the book of evidence on Brian Veale yesterday at Cork District Court.

On the application of Insp Mary King, Judge Con O’Leary sent the case against Veale forward for trial at the sessions of Cork Circuit Criminal Court commencing on June 8.
